KB Sound Bathroom and Kitchen Radio Systems Revealed

KB Sound Systems, whats the difference between them? What’s the best one for you?

For those of you that are not in the know, KB Sound is the company that make bathroom or kitchen radio systems that go through a hole in the ceiling like that of a down light. It’s said that it’s the “little things that make life;” if that’s the case then this is a little thing worth investing in.

There are five main KB Sound systems that are available and this blog post is aimed at explaining each system’ s pro’s and con’s.

KB Sound Plus

This little system is available in white, chrome and satin silver (nickel) it’s a basic system that draws you into the KB range offering two 1.5watt speakers that give a surprisingly good output. It’s an FM based system that uses a little aerial like the one you see on your clock radios. It can also have a hardwire FM aerial wired into it. So what’s good? It’s quite a cheap little system at around £90.00, and even though it has small speakers the output is great and it’s perfect for a smaller kitchen, bathroom or even a small office. It’s easy to install and the speakers are about the same size as an average down light at 65mm. One potential drawback is that It can sound a little lost in a large area. The remote has no screen so it can be harder than the bigger systems to program. BUT all in all it’s a great little system and great value for money.

KB Sound Select

The most popular of the KB systems available in white, chrome and satin silver (nickel). This system was the first in the KB range to feature a remote control with an LCD screen. It has two 2.5watt speakers that give a fantastic output and quality. It’s an FM based system but watch this space because there is a DAB version of the select planned to be released later this year. So what’s good about it? What surprised me the most was the sound quality, and being some that likes loud music this system is perfect as it maintains good quality even when the volume is cranked up! So good is the quality that the speakers are even used on the top of the range DAB system. Yet again it’s easy to install in a finished room as it only requires two holes in the ceiling. Its stores 20 stations and you can go straight to them on the presets on the control. The LCD makes the remote so much more user friendly. Apart from being more expensive then the basic system, there’s nothing really to moan about, thus making it the most popular KB system on the market.

KB Sound 5″

This system is one of the newer systems and is a mix of both of the above. It has massive 5″ speakers offering a stereo 1.5 + 1.5 watt speakers that offer unbelievable quality and a volume that will shake your ceiling. Like the select it has a remote control with LCD screen, and is an FM based system. This system has all of the benefits that the above systems posses plus the added volume of two 5″ stereo speakers. However; cutting 5″ holes in you ceiling is not as easy and can be a little messy but it’s well worth it if you like your music loud. I would recommend this system if you are redecorating. It is only available in white.

KB Sound Premium

This system is the FM hard wired system that has a box unit that mounts on the wall. It’s available in white, chrome and satin silver. It has fascias that come in a range of colours that can be matched to your wall at a small extra cost. It uses two 2.5 watt speakers like the select system. What’s good about it? Well the sound quality is great like the select, and the control unit on the wall has a jack plug which allows you to plug your CD player, mp3 or iPod into it using a jack lead which are available for pennies even in your local supermarket. Because of the wall box it can be a tad more messy to install as cables must be rundown the wall on instillation. Although there are sometimes easier ways round it can sometimes be a costly job. I recommend this system if you are refitting or redecorating.

KB Sound DAB Premium

This system is the dab system which is currently the only one KB Sound do. It is available in white, chrome and satin silver. The system has changeable fronts like the premium. The speakers are again the 2.5 watt ones that come on the select. The system offers FM and dab signals so unlike the other systems it can pick up some stations that are not available on FM and it’s in crystal clear dab! The DAB can be used with a dab aerial. The good stuff… as its dab the sound is unbeatable clear so when combined with great speakers you are provided with exceptional entertainment. The box again allows for the jack lead so you can plug you mp3 and iPods into it. Like the premium, installing is more advanced with the set up and running of cables. But this is a great system and any extra set up time it takes it is definitely worth it. You simply won’t be disappointed with this or any KB system you buy. All the systems come with a 2 years warranty and there are more big things planned for the future. The innovative ideas that KB Sound successfully materialse are what keep them at the forefront of their industry.

Keeping the Bathroom Sink Clean From Toothpaste Stains

I don’t know about you, but my kids seem to leave more toothpaste on the sink than in their mouths and toothbrushes when they are brushing their teeth. If this is like you, read on to see my tips for keeping the bathroom sink clean from toothpaste stains.

1. Buy white colored toothpaste, so stains don’t set in as quickly.

So, your kids want the pretty colored and flavored toothpaste to brush their teeth with? Tell them to first make sure they are more careful about getting it all over the sink before they get the colored stuff again.

2. Wipe the sink clean in both the morning and the evening, very quickly, everyday.

I am not talking about a scrub marathon session here, but instead just a quick wipe down. If you time these wipe downs to wait until after everyone has brushed their teeth the toothpaste left in the sink will still be fresh and will easily wipe away with a little water and rubbing with your finger. If you let it sit, and dry, you have to scrub a whole lot harder to get that toothpaste off.

The easiest way I’ve found to do this is to just make sure I am the last person in the house to brush their teeth. When I am done I just wipe out the sink, and it takes maybe 10 seconds of my time.

Better yet, teach your kids as part of their brushing their tooth routine to wipe out the sink after they spit and rinse out their mouth, and to place the cap back on the toothpaste so it doesn’t accidentally squirt out when something gets laid on it.

3. Re-moisten dried on toothpaste to make it easier to remove.

For that really dried on toothpaste that somehow got overlooked in your daily wiping sessions the best thing to do is re-moisten it, to make it easier to remove. There are several ways to do this, which include spraying or sprinkling it with water from the tap, or laying a moist paper towel over the dried toothpaste to really get it soaked.

Once the toothpaste is moist again it is generally pretty easy to wipe it off the bathroom sink, just like fresh toothpaste. If a little is still dried on and hard to remove take a gentle sponge scrubber or an old toothbrush and gently wipe away the dried toothpaste until your bathroom sink is shining again.

4. If a stain has developed from the toothpaste itself try a cleaning poultice.

If a colored toothpaste glob has sat on your bathroom sink so long that a colored stain has developed, and even after the toothpaste itself has been removed the color remains more drastic action needs to occur.

I suggest using a cleaning poultice made of baking soda and water, spreading it over the stained area, and then covering it with plastic wrap so the paste doesn’t dry out too quickly. Leave it overnight and then remove the plastic wrap and wipe away the paste, and hopefully the toothpaste stain too.

If this does not work you can also try a cleaning poultice with hydrogen peroxide, but be careful because it may damage your bathroom sink, so I would only do this as a last resort. Also, after approximately 10 minutes, you should check the sink to make sure the hydrogen peroxide poultice is not harming your sink, and again every hour or so for a couple of hours, until you are assured the hydrogen peroxide is not harming anything. If it does seem to hurt your sink remove the poultice immediately, rinse thoroughly with water, and either give up on the stain, or call in a professional.

Buyers’ Guide to Freestanding Bathroom Furniture

If you’ve decided you’d like to embrace the sophisticated look that freestanding bathroom furniture can bring to your bathroom, you might now be wondering how precisely to go about choosing the perfect pieces for your space.

The first consideration, as always, is size. If your bathroom is large, you’ll need to consider the size of each item and how it will fit into any alcoves or spaces between other fixtures such as baths or shower enclosures; if your bathroom is small, you need to get clever with your use of bathroom furniture to maximise your space and – crucially – to make it appear more spacious.

You should be able to find a small freestanding washstand of only 400 or 450mm across; one of these would suit a petite countertop basin and would still grant you some under basin storage space. If your room is narrow, consider the depth of your bathroom furniture. At less than 350mm deep, a compact washstand can be an admirably space saving item.

Going for a slim depth in all your bathroom furniture will allow maximum freedom of movement around a narrow bathroom. You can make the room seem bigger just by choosing freestanding units that are raised from the floor on legs. This will allow glimpses of some of the floor on which they’re standing, thus giving the illusion of a larger floor area overall. Units with sides that come right down to the ground inevitably limit the parts of the floor you can see, with the result that the room seems smaller. Sadly, you don’t actually get more storage space this way, but an optical illusion that makes you feel you’ve got more space is better than sticking with a claustrophobic bathroom, and simpler than embarking on an expensive rebuild project.

Think about the height of your bathroom furniture. Tall people need tall furniture, and vice versa, whichever room in the house you’re dressing. Washstands usually measure between 700mm and 900mm high: to eliminate aches and pains from stooping or stretching, pick a height that’s right for you. Similarly, think about ease of use when choosing storage units: different items of bathroom furniture have shelves, doors and drawers at different heights. It’s always preferable where possible to store low-use items near the floor or above shoulder height, so that you’ve got room to keep all your regular use items easily accessible.

And speaking of storage units, tall, slim cabinets offer a lot of storage capacity for the amount of floor space they take up. A tall cabinet that’s 350x350mm square but almost two metres high can hold a lot of clutter. Think about the way you use (or intend to use) your storage space. You will be able to choose between open shelving, drawer units, or cupboards, and can mix a combination of all three. Open shelving is useful for decorative pieces or daily use items; glass shelving is transparent and light reflective for smaller spaces; and concealed storage in the form of capacious cupboards is perfect to hide away bulky items. Drawer units, meanwhile, make easy work of storing row upon row of small items, which could get lost in a big cupboard, and are easily sub-divisible with baskets or boxes, making it a doddle to locate the precise item you require in seconds.

We’re all used to our bathrooms being ordered and structured places, and it’s interesting to bring in some freestanding bathroom furniture to break the mould. The very freestanding nature of this type of bathroom furniture appeals to many just because a bathroom designed around a freestanding set of furniture looks as though it could be moved round almost on a whim.

In terms of style, freestanding bathroom furniture can be traditional or contemporary, and there are such a range of different looks it would be difficult to list them all here. Suffice to say, whether your look is chunky and minimal, ornate and traditional, or slender and modern, there’s freestanding bathroom furniture out there to suit your tastes. Choose the individual pieces of bathroom furniture that suit both your room’s size and layout and your style preferences.

Always remember that bathroom furniture is flexible: if your lifestyle dictates that two basins are a necessity, then buy two washstands; if you prefer a huge showering area, invest your space there and choose bathroom furniture which fits the space you have remaining. Your bathroom furniture should be chosen to suit your lifestyle, not the other way around.

Five Best Ways To Get Hemorrhoid Relief

Hemorrhoid relief is what you’re certainly going to look for especially after seeing bright blood spots in your feces after a bowel movement. It is also relief from hemorrhoids you’d be searching for while the irritation from the lumps in your anus are getting more and more sore and uncomfortable. In this article, let’s talk some terrific ways on how to get relief.

1. Follow a better diet — Yes, adopting a superior diet can significantly help. It’s recommended to increase roughage consumption so constipation and straining of the bowel can be prevented. You may be surprised at how fast this relief can be. Cereals, dark-green leafy vegetables, whole grains, and citrus fruits can quickly furnish you hemorrhoid relief.

2. Follow better toilet habits — The way you use the bathroom has got to do with hemorrhoids as well. You see, when you stay on the toilet too long (more than five minutes), you are likely to exacerbate the issue because you’re putting too much pressure on the bowel. You should start timing your toilet use. It would also be astute to use a footrest while seated to decrease the stress and find hemorrhoid relief. Wiping lightly would also provide relief from hemorrhoids as it would not exacerbate the already swollen veins.

3. Sleep with your legs elevated — What? Sleeping with your legs raised can supply hemorrhoid relief? Yes! Something as simple as this is able to bring relief. This posture makes the blood flow smoother and lessens the pressure on the veins, thus, you experience relief from the hemorrhoids. You can elevate you legs by simply using a pillow or two behind your calves. You could also want to position pillows on either side so you can maintain either leg elevated when you shift positions. This is one of the simplest ways to savor relief from the pain that hemorrhoids bring.

4. Avoid being sedentary — Relief can also be attained by continuous movement. Being sedentary will not do your piles good. Sitting down or standing up for long hours will disturb the inflamed veins further. For hemorrhoid relief, the right thing to do is take brief breaks and do some stretching or walking. You can also engage in routine physical workout. Now, some people say that exercising too much can aggravate piles. While this may be true, the added symptoms are also expected to go away on their own. Hence, it’s OK to continue exercising. In fact, it can facilitate better blood circulation and also help provide hemorrhoid relief.

5. Utilize lubricating agents — Just in case you are a frequent sufferer of constipation, you can employ some lubricating agents for hemorrhoid relief aside from consuming fiber. Lubricants can yield relief by making the stools pass more effortlessly through the affected region. Using some petroleum jelly and cotton swab, apply a modest quantity on the anal region for speedy relief.

These are a few of the ways to get hemorrhoid relief. They are very elementary and effective. They can give you relief from hemorrhoids without having to go to the doctor or using more difficult techniques. Of course, there may be times when you need to opt for more methods especially if your case is serious. However, these hemorrhoid relief tips can unquestionably help a lot in alleviating the nettlesome symptoms.

Granite Remnants – Get Free Granite

Do you love the look and durability of granite but think you can’t afford it? You’re in luck!

Fortunately, measuring and cutting granite counter tops to install in kitchens and bathrooms is not an exact science. In every installation job there are leftover granite pieces. Lots of these pieces of granite are small and end up in the trash. On the other hand some slabs of granite have huge scraps leftover. Many of these leftover granite pieces are more than large enough to create beautiful counter tops for a small to medium sized kitchen.

The granite shop or stone yard has already sold this granite once. They already charged someone for the slab and made their money on the granite. That means that they can sell it to you at a substantial discount. If you shop around you will find savings of 10%-70% off from the full price of the granite. They may even give you some smaller scraps that are big enough for a bathroom for free.

There is just one drawback but unless you are incredibly picky you wont find it to be a problem.

The drawback is that you have to choose from what granite the stone yard has on hand. You will have to be flexible on what you are willing to install in your kitchen or bathroom. You can also be patient. The stone yards inventory of remnant pieces can change from day to day if they are a busy shop. Check back often and you will definitely be able to find something that will look beautiful in your home.

Once you find a slab of granite that is big enough and that you enjoy it can be finished like any other slab of granite. You can have it cut and shaped into any shape that you need. You can choose to have a matching granite back splash cut from the same piece. The stone yard can work the granite like any other piece. The will polish the edges and seal it for you. No one will ever know that your granite was leftover from another installation and that you purchased it at a substantial discount.

How To Get Rid Of Catarrh

Catarrh is a mucus discharge, which may be thick or thin and can become infected. Catarrh is a symptom of a disease or infection. If the catarrh is chronic it may be a symptom of an allergy. The best way to get rid of catarrh is to understand its underlying cause.

The conventional drug treatment is decongestants which should only be used for the short term. There are non-drug catarrh remedies that are safer for adults and children. These include homeopathic, home and natural remedies. They can be helpful in easing the symptoms of runny nose, stuffy nose or swollen sinuses.

The air can be very dry in the winter. Be sure to increase the humidity level at home or in the office. This will help to keep the mucus thin so that it can drain from the nasal passageways, thus preventing sinus headaches. A small humidifier works well when you don’t have a full house humidifier. Alternatively, boil some water to add humidity into the air. If the bout of catarrh is particularly bad, try running the hot water in the bathroom and sit in the steam in with bathroom door closed. This may provide immediate relief.

Using saline drops or spray can effectively help ease the symptoms of catarrh by hydrating the nasal passages. Another method to keep the mucous membranes clear is to use nasal irrigation. Similar to saline drops, nasal irrigation uses a warm saline solution poured into the nasal cavities to rinse them and provide hydration. Regular cleansing helps keep the sinuses and nasal passages clear.

When the catarrh is particularly thick and is blocking the nasal passages or causing pain, a warm compress may be applied to the face. Heat a wet cloth and place onto the face, over the nose and cheeks. Apply as often as needed. This will help loosen the thick phlegm that is stuck in the passageways. Alternatively, use a facial steamer or steam inhaler. The steam warms up the air in the nasal passageways, thus loosening the mucus and preventing inflammation.

If the catarrh is caused by allergies such as dust, pollen, mould, smoke or animal dander, a room-sized air cleaner can help filter the air. This will eliminate the irritant and help clear the catarrh more quickly.

Drink plenty of water to keep the mucus loose and the membranes moist. Avoid caffeinated beverages, as caffeine tends to further restrict the membranes.

Try to avoid medicated nasal sprays, as these may cause over drying. The sprays only provide temporary relief and they can become habit forming. There may be long term adverse effects in using medications to dry the sinuses. Once the medication wears off, the sinuses can become too dry or swollen.

If you suffer from chronic catarrh, you should seek medical attention to determine the underlying cause. Left untreated, catarrh can lead to more serious problems.

Most Toilets Flush in E-Flat: Chewing the Fat on a Useless Fact

Concerning the useless fact “Most toilets flush in E-Flat,” let no one take offense. I’ll only ramble, tongue in cheek, through the inter-relationships of concepts, words, musical notes, my musically inoperative mind, and the placement of these patterns in the different octaves through a failed musician’s experiential record.

“Most toilets flush in E-Flat,” made me curious. So much so that I had to hear it in real life; although, I consider myself tone deaf.

As a result, my curiosity made my husband question me if there was anything wrong with the commodes in the house. “Why do you keep flushing non-stop? Is there something wrong with the plumbing?”

I’m chicken. I didn’t give him a straight answer. “I don’t know,” I muttered, “I’m trying to find out something.”

Luckily, he didn’t insist. “Let me know if something’s amiss,” he mumbled absent-mindedly, clicking on his true love, the TV’s remote.

I flushed again, thinking the procedure thoroughly. I tried to enjoy the sound while recalling works in E-Flat. Beethoven’s E-Flat major sonata, the first movement dominated by three descending notes, repeating the motif with expression of feeling throughout the sonata, but then, Beethoven is like that. Yet, I heard no Beethoven here in the bathroom’s flush.

“Think chords,” I told myself. I had a piano teacher who was educated in France. He never referred to notes as A, B, C, etc., but he called them with weird names like do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si, which amplified my musical inability.

Talking about playing an instrument, I still ask, what for? Isn’t listening to music on the CD player much easier? If push came to shove and I had been the ambitious sort, then I would probably want to be in front of the real music makers, the instrument players, and act important, swinging a stick in the air. Who in this world does not want to feel important?

Despite all my musical disabilities, I eventually learned to appreciate the major chords since I’m a positive person, even where playing the piano is concerned. Besides, I loved the C major chord. As well as sounding happy, playing the C major chord was easy. Not the minor keys and E-flat major, however.

My teacher would probably have called E-Flat major mee beh-mole. When the correct pattern of whole and half steps are achieved, E-Flat major scale contains three flats, B flat, E-Flat, and A flat. All these flats, which make me think of slum dwellings, give the scale a low, slightly solemn, but still happier-than-minor-chords tone.

Many symphonies in E-flat major are loud with mournful passages in between. Sibelius Symphony number 5 or Haydn’s Drum Roll, better yet Shostakovich. I adore any symphony that starts with great gusto and energy and goes to the heart without beating around the bush. Yet, I don’t like loud as overbearing loud, but loud enough with energy. I like short fantasias in between to break the monotony and to add color. Hey, maybe I didn’t turn out to be a piano player, but don’t you think I, at least, mastered the lingo?

At one point in my experiments with the flushing, after I thought symphony, I turned on the tap and drummed on the bathroom counter with my fingers. No, not quite. I really didn’t hear the E-Flat.

At that time, I remembered an article in my son’s archeology magazine. Unlike his mother, my son has a good ear and he plays the guitar proficiently. The article said, archeologists had dug out a prehistoric musical instrument or rather the pipes of such an instrument in Ireland. Initial experiments had proven that one of the notes these pipes generated was E-Flat. “E-Flat is common pitch for many ancient Irish horns,” the article wrote.

Yes, Irish music…after all, wasn’t Irish music aristocratic, assertive, and yet sad at times? I googled, “Irish music E-Flat.” This had more to do with socio-musicology, if there’s such a thing, or maybe musico-sociological factors, but I think I had hit on something here.

Probably, I hadn’t heard the E-Flat due to tone-deafness or my lack of knowledge, but the words, I could recognize them. They were suggestive. They had a bounce and a swirl to them.

This is what I found: “Give us a minute” Traditional Irish Bagpipe Ireland Jig E-Flat Major and

the Irish ballad for bagpipes “The Water is wide” E-Flat Major. They did deal with water and pipes, and it does take a full minute to flush. I know, because I timed it.

In another found-in-Google article, it said: “It doesn’t matter what key the music is written in, but the range of the instrument matters… Some instruments are constructed in E-Flat, like the E-Flat trumpet, E-Flat clarinet, and the E-Flat saxophone.”

Inside my mind, I added “E-Flat commode” to the list. Well, why not? Isn’t it a fact that “Most toilets flush in E-Flat”?

Plumbing: What Goes Into A Complete New House Installation?

If you are in the process of building a new home, congratulations! This can be an exciting time for you, and there is a lot that still has to be done before you can move in. You will need a lot of help to get everything in, and one of the most important moves you can make now, before things get too far, is to call in an experienced plumber to help you with the complete new house installation that you will need.

Laying the Groundwork

A complete new house installation of plumbing can be a tricky thing, and no matter how beautiful your dream home is, bad plumbing will sour the whole experience in no time. With the help of an experienced plumber, you can insure that what goes into your new home will be the best that money can buy, and be as reliable as you need it to be. The first job will be laying the groundwork for installation of all necessary products and pipes.

With the help of your plumbing consultant, work out a plan on paper, detailing every major and minor installation that will go into your new home. You can set it up, room by room, to help you keep track of everything that will be needed. For instance, the kitchen will have the dishwasher and the kitchen sink, while the bathroom will have the toilet and the bathroom sink. Be sure to include a layout of all connecting pipes, and do not forget outside faucet access, especially if you also have a septic tank in mind.

Remember the Inspector

All new construction must pass a county or state building inspection. To avoid pitfalls created by using plumbing not included in your area’s building code, be sure to double check every proposed installation against the local code authority’s guidelines. This is another aspect of plumbing installation where your plumber on retainer can be an invaluable resource.

Every area has its own local code requirements, as do state and national construction agencies. Your plumber can provide you with a list of applicable codes that your home falls under, and can walk you through them, step by step. This way, any potential problems can be spotted prior to installation, and you can alter your plumbing groundwork maps accordingly. No surprises for the inspector, and no headaches in the future for you.

Choose your Materials Wisely

Whenever someone works on building their own home, quality may be compromised in order to save on costs. Plumbing is one area where this should never happen. In order to get a fully functioning plumbing system the way you want, you have to spend a little more on quality materials, to make sure that it will not turn out to be a money pit later on.

No matter how well your home will be insulated, the area weather still needs to be taken into consideration when purchasing plumbing materials. Not all of your pipes will be under the protection of your home’s insulation, especially those that come into contact with the ground around your home. You will need to be certain that the materials you choose can stand up to the weather changes in your area, and that any pipes coming into the home from the exterior ground be protected against freezing and other environmental changes.

Installation and Testing

Once you have everything purchased, rely on your plumber and his crew to efficiently install everything for you. Unless you are a trained plumber yourself, it is best to let the professionals handle the actual installation, if possible. And, in the same spirit of avoiding ugly surprises, make certain that every inch of the installation gets thoroughly tested to make sure it works, without fault or leaks, before the building inspector arrives.

A complete new house installation of plumbing can be an exhilarating experience to participate in. By working hand in hand with a qualified professional plumber, you can easily eliminate all of the headaches and potential problems even the most experienced builder can face.
